Neighborhood Watch
The Rancho Palos Verdes Neighborhood Watch program is a community-based, resident-run organization that exists to make neighborhoods safer through crime reduction and improving quality of life for individuals living in the same area.
The RPV Neighborhood Watch uses its network to address issues related to crime, public safety, and quality of life. RPV NW was founded by a resident in 1992 to facilitate crime reduction and to improve communication between residents and the Sheriff’s Department and the City.
It is now one of the largest and longest running programs in Los Angeles County, with approximately 90% of single-family streets participating in the program.

One of the primary goals of RPV NW is to work with neighbors to fight crime. They receive information directly from the Sheriff’s Department and information is disseminated through the NW system. The NW Coordinator shares information to Area Coordinators who then share information to Block Captains. Block Captains interact with individuals and families, and do so only with authorized information. The NW Coordinator, the Area Coordinators, and the Block Captains are also educated and trained in Emergency Preparedness, such as CERT and amateur radio training.

HELP STOP 11 STORY/500 UNITS IN SILVER SPUR CANYON
From Voices of Silver Spur <voicesofsilverspur@gmail.com>
Thanks to everyone that attended our meeting down in the canyon on Sunday. We appreciate your support, and there were lots of great questions.
There were several requests to have a list of elected officials that our members could interact with, and some example wording that could be used with those elected officials.
At this point, there are two levels of government that we would appreciate our members contacting :
1) Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor - This would be to express your objections to the Silver Spur Canyon project. In three months or less, the developer will submit his final application and that is the point when the city will consider approving it or not. We need them to know now just how many of us are against the project. (If you filled out one of these Sunday at the meeting, no need to do it again.)

2) Our State Assemblymen and State Senator - we need to ask them to put pressure on the State Department of Housing and Community Development to facilitate the final review of Rancho Palos Verdes housing element. Our city council did what the state asked for, and submitted the final draft, and now the state is dragging its feet on giving final approval. It’s been almost 2 weeks since RPV sent in the paperwork.

CONCERNING NEWS
Sources tell us that the same developer, Akhilesh Jha, that has proposed the Silver Spur Canyon Project has been shopping for property in Palos Verdes Estates, and may have made an offer on a home for sale on a lot big enough to put in a high rise building. PVE is also subject to builder's remedy because its Housing Element is not in compliance. Further news as we get it.
